Primary Game Scene.

This week we worked on our primary game scene. The only problem I encountered was adding the drag and drop code to my game. I got the syringe to move with my arrow keys, however it will be a drag and drop in my final game. I will be using this scene in the game, it will be one of the main scenes. Now I need to go and figure out how to get the drag and drop to work.

Tutorials.

We used many different tools while working with the tutorials. The star tool starts at a specific point, and makes a star shape from it, where ever you drag your mouse. The drawing tools each let us draw, different shapes in different ways. Using blank keyframes is probably the best thing we learned to do. We will need to used these in our game to make the diseases move towards our player.

Drawing tools.

I'm sure I will be using the fill tool in my game. I will have to fill the syringes with different colored liquids. The fill tool would be the easiest way to do that. I am commenting on Gaige's blog.

Paper Prototype Review.

I did not enjoy making the paper prototype. I like working with the computers, not drawing. That is partly the reason I didn't take any art classes since middle school. But I tihnk the designing the game part is going to be a lot more fun.

Paper Prototype

My game will be a strategy, tower defence type game. The game will discuss diseases, and preventions of certain ones. Diseases that cannot be cured, will not be able to in the game, and fatal diseases will eventually kill you in the game, just as they would in real life. The main goal is to keep your character alive, and make it through as many rounds as possible. The main activity is to strategically place vaccines, and antibiotics to destroy incoming diseases before they reach your characters face. The only problem I think we would face in creating this game would be the diseases coming down at your character randomly. We would like for each round to last around 1-1 1/2 minutes, and don't want to have to code each of those seperately. A random code would be AWESOME!

Team Game Idea

My team worked together to come up with the idea about our disease game. We thought it would be fun bcause many of the disease games out now are fun, but there aren't many of them around. We already went through and found some pictures we would like to use, and found some pictures we would like to incorperate into the game. I also though that tower defense games were fun, so we decided to make that our main game idea.

I am going to comment on Logan's blog.

Choosing your topic.

I discovered that some of the diseases we planned on putting in our game, don't have cures. These diseases in the game will have to be prevented and if you do catch them, they will eventually be death. I didn't find any games in the categorys though, my topic was hard to find. I ended up just using google to search for mine.

Copy and answer ALL of these questions about your Game Idea in your blog post:
  • WHO are you designing your game for? (Include the player's age, abilities, and prior knowledge of your topic.)
  • It will be a type of game that any that is age 7+ will be able to play. A simple game that you might want to take your mom's phone to play it.
  • WHAT will your game teach the player about your topic? (Be specific!)
  • It will tell about different illnesses, and what type of medicine can cure/slow the progression of it. It will also tell how important it is to get some illnesses taken care of early.
  • WHERE does your game happen?
    • Describe the world you will design for your game.
    • How will this setting add to the learning experience?
  • There will be more than one level. You will just be a regular person going to "hang out" somewhere. The area you pick will determine the types of illnesses/diseases that wll attempt to affect your body.
  • HOW does your game world teach the player about your topic?
    • What happens in the world that helps the player learn?
    • How does the player use what they learned to make something happen in the game?
  • You will put out different vaccines, etc. that will take care of certain illnesses, as one moves closer to your body if (ex.) you had a flue shot out, and a case of the mumphs came towards you, you would get a warning that your current vaccines are not going to be able to cure the disease, and you would have to pick accordingly.
  • WHY is a game a better way of understanding your topic than a quiz?
  • Games are fun, quizzes are not. I would much rather play an educational game (if it's good!) than take a quiz on paper.

Mini Game.

I do play games in my spare time. My favorite ones are RIFT and Oblivion. These games both take place in the medieval times. I think that that time period was very interesting, and I like playing out things that take place during that time. I do get a new perspective when playing something like this, and then maybe moving on to some futuristic game. It makes me see how hard things were in old times, and how easy things are in our "future". I am commenting on Logan's blog.

Genres I'm Interested In

The genre I am most interested in, would deffinetly be strategy. I don't have extremely fast internet at my house, so when I want to play something by myself, it's usually a strategy game (or an RPG but that would be too complicated to make). Strategy requires the user to make certain things happen, by using other things to get them done. Such as, getting a higher education so you can get a better job, in return you make more money. That stood out to me because it's realistic, and teaches kids to get an education.

Learning Flash

Today I learned how to make objects move in Flash 2.0. It is not too challenging and I hope we get into how to do more complex things next time we meet.

Single Story

To have a single story means to come from a community that is only know for one thing. People don't know about the other aspects of it.
A single story I have heard about this community is that we all all rednecks. This isn't true however, there may be some, but you cannot define a whole area as one single sterotype.
A single story I may hae heard is that people from southern states are lazy, but this doesn't show any of the work of the hardworking people that live there. All communities have some lazy people and some hard working people.
Maybe having a game about a single story shown from an outside view, then the exact same level shown from the other view. Like if it was a war game, fighting from one side, then fighting from the other side.
